Angola
From Hobson's Choice
A nation of Africa; formerly one of the Lusaphonic colonies of Portugal. As of this writing, Angola is near the bottom of the list in the UN Human development index. Prior to 1975, it was a colony of Portugal; at the time of liberation, it was the scene of two rival anti-colonial movements, MPLA and UNITA. While the immense oil wealth was plundered by an oligarchy with Marxist pretensions (the MPLA), UNITA waged one of the most barbaric terrorist campaigns ever against the population in the hinterlands.
Historically, Angola is tied to Congo-Kinshassa through the vast Angolan empire. This was one of the first autochthonous African polities to come in contact with Europe.
