A region of the Arabian Peninsula. It includes the cities of Yathrib (Medinah), Makkah (Mecca), and Ta'if. All of these cities have religious significance; Makkah is the birthplace of Muhammad al-Rasul bn Abdullah (i.e., the Prophet), and the destination of millions of Muslims making the annual pilgrimage (hajj).

Since 1924, the Hijaz has been under the rule of the Saudi royal family. It is served by the port city of Jiddah.
