In any society there exists a palette of relationships among people, which in combination contribute to the character of the social order. These relationships include familial ties, hierarchies within the business world, and so on. Social relations are a defining attribute of institutions, and enable them. For example, in some societies social relations are strictly egalitarian, which makes social democracy possible.
